STRAUSS, Richard (1864-1949). German conductor and composer. Autograph Letter Signed on a postcard to Dr Paul Ertel in Berlin, Marquartstein, 21 September 1898. A good letter, bemoaning the poverty of composers. With transcription and a full translation. '... Would you not like to speak up for the poor composers yourself sometime? I keep reading about the cries of woe from the publishers and impresarios that they are going to be earning less in future! But the composers of the concert halls earn absolutely nothing at all with their works, and no-one is talking about that! That is taken for granted and will no doubt remain so. The fact that the performance rights business is being dealt with in quite the wrong way is another matter! ...' [No: 24036]
