HAGGARD, Sir Henry Rider (1856-1925). Novelist.
Autograph Letter Signed to 'Giles', 3 pages 8vo (somewhat browned), Ditchingham House, Nortolk, 6 October 1914. What begins as a thank-you letter for the gift of pheasants goes on to discuss the war and to give a harrowing account of the death of his nephew, together with a newspaper account of the young Captain Haggard's act of heroism.
'... This war is the deuce of a business & ÿreally we have not yet begun to feel the effects. At best I fear it must be a very long affair. ...'
