O'CONNOR, Thomas Power (1848-1929). Irish journalist and politician.
Autograph Letter Signed to Lady Wilde (1821-1896, poet, mother of Oscar Wilde), 4 pages 8vo, 3 Barnards Inn, Holborn, 11 December no year. Inviting her to contribute to the Cabinet of Irish Literature and suggesting one of her poems that might be suitable.
'... I have already hit upon one of your poems, which has struck everyone to whom I showed it, as an excellent illustration of your genius. I mean that beautiful poem "Related Souls". Apart from its literary qualities, this piece is most suitable to me in the more material and lower matter of length. ...'
Lady Wilde's reputation did not, unfortunately, provide her with much income and she died in poverty. Her dying wish was to see her son, Oscar, who was in prison. This was refused.
