Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent 2 pages 4to (note of indentification in ink at the head), Bath, 25 April 1779. Announcing the death of his son, Suckling Nelson, and arranging for his own re-instatement to his son's preferments.
[Although we generally prefer to transcribe documents literally we have been obliged to omit several dozen commas from this halting narrative and to reduce the number of capital letters.]
'The sudden and melancholly event of my son' Death, late Rector of Burnham Street Albert, alias Burnham Sutton has vacated that preferment which was resigned, by me, in November 1797. Upon my representing this unfortunate case to the Lord Chancellor, his Lordship has in the most generous manner said, He will reinstate me, as before, and will accordingly order, a presenta to be made out in my name, the form of presentation will be, the Revd Edmund Nelson a:m to the Rectory of Burnham St Albert, alias Burnham Sutton ... in the County of Norfolk and Diocess of Norwich, now vacant, by the the death of the Revd. Suckling Nelson, the late incumbent. You sir, will prepare a presentation as soon as convenient, and when the Chancellor has been pleased to affix his seal to it, you will be so good as to acquaint me, and I will take care that it shall be called for at your office.'
