WEBER, Carl Maria von (1786-1826). Composer.
Autograph Doc.S, 1 page 4to (lower part a little browned), Prague, 3 June 1815. Ordering the payment of his salary as opera director in Prague.
'On this my instruction, Herr Leiner, theatre cashier, is requested to pay to the order of Herr Ballabene & Co. the salary due to me for the months of June, July and August, at 166 Gulden 40 current coin per month, in total Five Hundred Gulden, on the 1st July, August and September.'
Beneath, in another hand, are signed receipts for the three dates in question.
Weber was appointed director of the opera at Prague on his arrival in the city (on a proposed concert tour) in January 1813; he stayed in the post until September 1816.
Beethoven mentions the Prague bank of Ballabene in his correspondence (Anderson, pages 574-5); in 1816 he calls them 'business hounds' and 'too grand to deal with such a matter'.
