Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs [Lewis] Powle, a neighbour in Rye, 1½ pages 8vo (some original ink blotting on the reverse), Lamb House, Rye, 27 September 1938. Attempting to clear up a misunderstanding over dates ('Sunday is the Second. Would you me know whether you mean "Sunday" or "the 1st" ...').
E.F. Benson served as mayor of Rye (the 'Tilling' of the Mapp and Lucia novels) between 1934 and 1937, living in Henry James's old house.
