Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Lewis Powles in Rye, 1½ pages 8vo with envelope (postage stamp removed), Lamb House, Rye, 1 June 1934. Regretfully declining an invitation on the grounds that he was going to London, but asking Mrs Powles and her party to come to tea the following Sunday.
E.F. Benson served as mayor of Rye (the 'Tilling' of the Mapp and Lucia novels) between 1934 and 1937, living in Henry James's old house.
