EDWARD VIII (1894-1972). King of England. Abdicated in 1936.
Autograph Letter Signed ('Edward P' as Prince of Wales) to Lady Oxford (presumably Margot Asquith), 2 pages 8vo, St James's Palace, 'Friday', no date. Regretfully declining an invitation to lunch ('I am already engaged that day - I am so sorry').
'... Its [sic] too bad that your daughter has to be away a year in Washington though I'm sure that if one has to live abroad the United States is the best place. ...'
The former Margot Tennant, who had married H.H. Asquith (as his second wife) in 1894, had become Lady Oxford and Asquith on her husband's elevation to the peerage in 1925.
