MILMAN, Henry Hart (1791-1868). Dean of St Paul's.
Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Sartoris (Adelaide Kemble, 1814-1879, singer), 4 pages 8vo, Deanery, St Paul's, 9 November 1860. Reporting on a proposal by Lady Melbourne to commission [Frederic] Leighton to decorate the cathedral.
'... I have so high an opinion of Mr Leighton's artistic skill and genius, that with the exception of the name which he mentions so honourably, that of Watts, I should trust that we should be as safe in his hands as of any living Painter. ...'
