HAMMERSTEIN, Oscar II (1895-1960). American writer and producer.
Typewritten Letter Signed to Albert Deane [of Paramount Picture], 1 page small 4to, New York, 4 May 1951. A fine letter written on his own behalf and that of [Richard] Rodgers.
'In behalf of Mr. Rodgers and myself I wish to thank you for your warm and welcome letter telling us how much you and your wife enjoyed "The King and I". ... You may not have pictured us as struggling people, but I assure you that getting a production like "The King and I" on the stage is achieved only after a generous shedding of blood, sweat and tears. ...'
