SUPPE, Franz (1819-1895). Austrian composer and conductore.
Autograph Letter Signed to a friend, 3 pages 8vo (split in the central fold professionally repaired), dated on the reverse in another hand 15 May 1884. A lengthy and friendly letter discussing the (excessive) cost of transporting wine from Eggenburg to Gars, asking about Pfab's farewell supper and about Mayerhofer (after whom a local street had just been named), etc.
'... If I add in the cost of returning the bottles and the cask [or perhaps 'packaging'], for which I would have to pay the same amount, the wine would be much too expensive. I therefore think that it's better to give up this idea of wine in Gars and just drink twice as much in Vienna instead. What is your opinion? ...'
