LAWRENCE, D.H. (1885-1930). Poet, novelist and essayist.
Autograph Letter Signed (pencil, initials) in German on a postcard to [Baroness Anna von] Richtofen, his mother-in-law, Le Lavandu [8 October 1928]. Explaining that he was still waiting for Frieda to arrive, and commenting on the weather.
Lawrence and Frieda were planning to spend the winter with the [Richard] Aldingtons who had rented an old fortress on the Ile de Port-CrÔs, off Hyères. Frieda had gone off to Italy to pack up their villa, the Mirenda, and Lawrence stayed behind in Le Lavandou waiting for her to return.
See The Letters of D.H. Lawrence, ed. J. & M. Boulton and G.M. Lacy, vol. VI, page 587. Where this letter is transcribed and translated. The picture side of the card shows a scene on the island of Port-CrÔs.
