![]() ELGAR, Sir Edward (1857-1934). Composer. Autograph Letter Signed to Dr John E. Borland (organist and composer), 3 pages 8vo, 38 Via Gregoriana, Rome, 30 April 1908. Exlaining that he was about to leave for Naples, and enclosing a cheque for one guinea 'for the Cummings Address'. It was during this visit to Italy in 1908 that Elgar did much of the work on his Symphony No. 1 in A flat, which was dedicated to Hans Richter and first performed at a Hallé concert in Manchester on 3 December that year.
