GADE, Niels Wilhelm (1817-1890). Danish composer and conductor.
Autograph Letter Signed in English to an unnamed correspondent, 3 pages 8vo (a little worn in the fold), Copenhagen, 21 February 1876. Sending an arrangement of 'the Crusaders', and promising further parts to follow.
Concerning preparations for an English performance of Korsfarerne (Crusader), for solo, chorus and orchestra to words by C. Andersen, composed 1865-1866.
'... By the end of February, according to promise, I shall send you all the Chorus-parts, printed with English words; and the solos. You can have copies of the score (Partitur) and Orchester (sic) parts from Breitkopf & Härtel of Leipzig. ...
'The translation of "Zion"
[Cantata, 1874] is almost ready, but I cannot promise the printed Chorus-parts before the end of March.'
Together with an engraved portrait of Gade inscribed (but not signed) to the Swedish composer and conductor, Jacob Axel Josephson (1818-1880), dated Leipzig, April 1847. Josephson had studied composition with Gade.
