Napoleon in exile on Elba

NAPOLEON I (1769-1821). Emperor of the French.
Document Signed ('Np' with a flourish), 1 page folio with integral blank, Porto ferrajo [Portoferraio], 12 August 1814. Annotated in the upper right hand corner with a summary in French and endorsed 'Renvoyé au Grand Maréchal' above Napoleon's signature.
An agreement to a request by the captain of a coaster, a long-time resident of Toulon, for the necessary documents ('expeditions') to be issued to enable him to recover his ship and continue his sailing activities. A further endorsement at the foot records that the documents were supplied.
Napoleon abdicated (11 April 1814) after Paris had been taken the allies, and was sent into exile on the Mediterranean island of Elba, whilst Louis XVIII was placed on the French throne. He left Elba the following year, reaching Paris on 20 March at the beginning of the 'hundred days'. Documents signed during his exile on Elba are rare on the market.
