BENNETT, Sir William Sterndale (1816-1875). Composer.
Autograph Letter Signed to [Charlotte Helen] Sainton[-Dolby], 2 pages 8vo (piece of the blank third page excised and replaced with similar paper), Eastbourne, 11 August 1867. Apologising for not having sent her her song and part ('I have not been able to please myself with [it]'.
'... I know you will be considerate and you shall have the part in a printed shape in a day or two, and a few minutes study will be sufficient for one like yourself. ...'
Bennett composed his oratorio The Woman of Samaria at Eastbourne. It was produced in 1867 at the Birmingham Festival. Mme Sainton-Dolby (1821-1885) was a popular contralto and a pupil of Mendelssohn.
