DARWIN, Charles (1809-1882). Naturalist.
Autograph Letter Signed ('Ch Darwin') to Mr Dallas, 1 page 8vo (laid down on thick card), Down, Beckenham, Kent, 25 January 1881. Asking him to 'suspend the enclosed certificate' (no longer included) and to take whatever further steps may be necessary.
It is not clear what is intended here since it is uncertain to whom the letter is written, perhaps William Sweetland Dallas (1824-1890, assistant secretary to the Geological Society of London at this time) or James Dallas (1853-1916, assistant in the library and museum of the same institution). It is also quite possible that this Dallas was a bank manager.
The letter is not in the online Calendar of the Correspondence of Charles Darwin and appears to be unpublished.
