GOUNOD, Charles François (1818-1893). French composer.
Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent ('Mon cher ami'), 2 pages 8vo with integral blank, no place, 27 October 1890. Expressing regret that absence from Paris would make it impossible for him to join a committee being organised for the erection of a statue to the memory of Georges Bizet. With a translation.
Gounod regrets also that he would be unable to be associated with his illustrious colleagues, Ambroise Thomas (with whom he had been a pall-bearer at Bizet's funeral) and Ernest Reyer, in the project. It is not clear, however, to what monument he may be referring.
