PUSEY, Edward Bouverie (1800-1882). Tractarian divine.
Autograph Letter (third person), perhaps a draft, to the publisher [?Francis] Rivington, 1 page 8vo (laid down), 35 Grosvenor Square, no date. Sending part of the manuscript of his 'Enquiry' and discussing details of the publication. The letter is undated but the beginning of the watermark '182[]' is evident.
Pusey's An historical enquiry into the probable causes of the rationalist character lately predominant in the theology of Germany was published in May 1828 shortly after his return from his studies in Germany and before his ordination and installation as regius professor of Hebrew at Oxford.
'... Mr R. will observe that there remains a passage or two to be supplied of the Second Manuscript There remain about 30 more pages to which however there are perhaps not so many notes. Mr E.P. remarks fo the sake of clearness that the notes are referred to by numbers ...'
