![]() GYROWETZ, Adalbert (Vojtech Jirovec) (1763-1850). Bohemian composer. Fine Autograph Music Quotation Signed of 22 bars on two staves, signed and dated 24 November 1845, 1 page 4to (oblong), 160 x 210 mm. (ca 6¼ x 8¼ inches). The piece is in 2/4 time in C major in the treble and bass clefs but may be a trio (of which Gyrowetz composed many) rather than a piano work, and appears to be complete in itself. Gyrowetz was a prolific composer in many forms, adhering to a traditional style. He was a friend of both Mozart and Haydn, and a pallbearer at Beethoven's funeral. His music is still performed and recorded. There is an ink inscripion in another hand at the top of the page, giving the date of Gyrowetz's death as August 1849. Provenance: Sotheby's 11 November 1981, lot 41, cited as from the collection of John Ella. [No: 22095] The image links to a larger or more detailed version.
