BOWRING, Sir John (1792-1872). Linguist, political economist & writer.
Autograph Letter Signed to Mr R.B. Hardy in Glasgow, 2 pages 4to (slight glue-stains), London, 3 August 1835. Regarding an error in his 'pairing' in a parliamentary vote, and promising to try to further his correspondent's cause with the Treasury.
'... I must tell you frankly that I have - & can expect to have but little weight - I frequently vote against ministers, and cannot therefore expect to be looked on with a very cordial feeling. Against the Tories my vote is always ready. ...'
