Autograph Letter Signed to an unidentified artist, 2 page 4to (mounting strip adhering to the reverse), Axminster, 4 October 1839. Sending a copy of his Bridgewater Treatise in thanks for a painting 'of my Birth Place [Axminster]', and giving an elaborate commission for more pictures.
'... I am induced .. to trespass on your kindness by soliciting the favor of an exact copy on same size as the original of the picture of old Dr Barns now in the House of Mr Berry at Paradise. ... As an historical fact you may place in front of the House & hitched by the Bridle to the Gate, the very grey Horse on which the Doctor rides & place the Doctor walking up the path. ... Behind the gate where we placed them you may add Mr Conybeare & Mr ?Wether, if you like to deal in anachronism. ...'
