Manon Lescaut at Bari

PUCCINI, Giacomo (1858-1924). Italian composer.
Autograph Letter Signed on a postcard to Carlo Clausetti in Naples, Milan, 15 February 1895. With a translation.
He has to work, 'and going to Bari would cause me too much distraction and loss of time'. He asks his correspondent to make his excuses and thank Lombardi and Bosco 'very warmly on my behalf for all the trouble they have taken over my Manon'. He adds that the first night of Mascagni's Guglielmo Ratcliff (eventually conducted by Mascagni on February 16th) has been postponed.
Clausetti was at this time the Naples agent for Ricordi, Puccini's publishers; he became his close friend and supporter.
