RAVEL, Maurice (1875-1937). French composer. Autograph Letter Signed to Dr Abel Desjardins in Paris, 1 page 8vo on his monogrammed paper, with address on the verso, Montfort l'Amaury, 18 July 1923. With a translation. Since his return he has wanted to write to thank Desjardins and give him the news. Edouard should have told him the reason for the delay. '... I am starting to be able to write a little less awkwardly. I think it is possible that I shall have lost a finger, at least for piano-playing (no great loss) but which will constrict me even for composing. The doctor who is looking after me here speaks of a skin-graft, which he thinks would advance matters. ...'His foot is no longer suppurating. Little seems to be known about this problem of Ravel's. Here we find him after a year of inactivity, between completing the orchestration of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and beginning the violin sonata (a month after writing this letter).
