CHARLES II (1630-1685). King of England. Document Signed, addressed to Heneage, Lord Finch, Keeper of the Great Seal, 1 page folio, with integral second leaf and papered seal, Whitehall, 13 December 1675. Authorising him to affix the Great Seal to the appointment of Thomas Chudleigh as secretary of the embassy to negotiate the peace treaty at Nimeguen [Nijmegen]. Thomas Chudleigh (1650-?1702), diplomat, was almost constantly abroad during the reign of Charles II. He had already been on diplomatic missions to Spain, Paris and Cologne when he was appointed secretary to the ambassadors at the Nijmegen peace conference, which was to end the Dutch war in 1678.
