LISTER, Joseph (1827-1912). Surgeon. Founder of antiseptic surgery.
Autograph Letter Signed to 'My dear Rücker' (evidently a colleague), 1½ pages 8vo on black-edged paper (traces of mounting on the blank leaf), York House Hotel, Bath, 14 October 1899. Touching on a variety of scientific matters.
'You are certainly right, and at the same time very kind, in the part you are taking as to the paper on sound.
I am glad you can report so well of the work at Wiesbaden.
I think we must leave the fixing of the day for the Antarctic Com[mit]tee till Foster returns. He must have tarried in his journey home as I have not heard from him.'
Lister was at this time President of the Royal Society, and it is very likely that the topics of the present letter relate to the Soceity's activities.
