Autograph Letter Signed to 'My dear Campbell', 3 pages 16mo, 45 Great Marlborough Street, 'Friday' no date (watermark [18]37). Explaining that he had to sit for a photograph, and asking Campbell to join him at dinner later in the month.

'I find I am obliged to sit for my cabinet (not for myself) tomorrow at 11: therefore will you with your usual kindness come at ½ past 9 to breakfast which will give us an hour and a half chat.
I dine with Sir C. Forbes on the 20th and should you be ?determined, perhaps you would manage to be present ...'

If the pencilled note on the otherwise blank fourth page 'Sir George Back / Arctic Explorer' is contemporary it would date the letter to 1839 or later, when Back was knighted.
