BARBIROLLI, Sir John (1899-1970). Conductor.
Typewritten Letter Signed to Miss [Elise] Gordon, 1 page 4to, on writing-paper of the Hallé Concerts Society, 2 May 1956. Thanking her for sending a letter which had given him much pleasure, agreeing with her that their mutual friend, Edward German, was 'gentle and courteous', and recalling an interview she had done some time ago.
'... I am afraid that I play but rarely these days, but I occasionally get a little chamber music which I confess I sorely miss.'
