LABLACHE, Luigi (1794-1858). Italian bass. Document Signed, 1 page 4to, partly printed, with manuscript insertions, Paris, 31 December 1838. A receipt for his salary for the month of December from Monsieur Viardot, director of the Théâtre Royal Italien, Paris. Lablache, one of the greatest of all bass singers, sang at the Théâtre Italien from 1830 to 1851. Among the roles he created were Bellini's Sir George Walton (I Puritani), Donizetti's Marino Faliero and Don Pasquale, and Verdi's Massimiliano (I Masnadieri). In 1840 Louis Viardot married Pauline Garcia. [No: 21648]
