HUNTER, John (1728-1793). Surgeon and anatomist.
Autograph Letter (third person), 1 page 8vo (trimmed and laid down), 'Wednesday', no date. Arranging to meet Sharp the following Friday.
'... Mr John Hunter's Compts and will meet Sharp on Friday next the 30th at one o'clock precisely / Wednesday'
It is possible that 'Sharp' is the printmaker who was responsible for the dissemination of Joshua Reynolds's celebrated portrait of Hunter. The date of the note could be narrowed down by the number of months on which Friday was the 30th, but without any further clue, in the form of a watermark for instance, this would probably be a fruitless exercise.
Anything written by Hunter is very rarely seen on the market.
