Fine Autograph Letter Signed to Robert Southey, 1½ pages 4to with address-leaf, London, 16 July 1827. Concerning contributions to the Quarterly Review, and enumerating four particular articles which Lockhart would like to receive in the near future
'... I am exceedingly anxious to have Hallam in the next. If Mr Murray has not sent you Agar Ellis's attack on Clarendon's personal character it shall be sent to you immediately & I shall make every effort to have it accompanied by the Strafford & Clarendon Statepapers.
If you permit me to say in what order I shd covet receiving the articles you propose it wd be thus. I Emigration. 2 Irish ?Sculpture (taking in I hope Sir Wm Beetham's antiquities). 3 The West Indies & 4 Surtees' Durham. ...'
Southey's review of Hallam's Constitutional History of England appeared in the Quarterly for January 1828.
