ADAMS, Richard (b. 1920). Author.
Autograph Manuscript and typescript of a short story entitled Argos, in all 12 pages folio together with a covering Typewritten Letter Signed to Selina [?Hastings], 1995. The story of Odysseus's dog who recognized him after twenty years despite his disguise is retold here from the dog's point of view.
Adams explains in his letter that the story was his contribution to an anthology which The Guardian had produced, and offers to find another should this one not suit.
A hand-written postscript asks if Selina had seen the television broadcasts about Jacqueline du Pré.
'... I thought they were wonderful. What a terrible loss. ...'
Provenance: Sothebys, 17 December 1996, Lot 208, sold on behalf of the Royal Society of Literature.
