HARDY, Thomas (1840-1928). Poet and novelist.
Autograph Letter Signed ('T.H.') to [?William] Fisher, 1 page 8vo (repairs to the reverse in old adhesive tape, split in the folds), Max Gate, Dorchester, 22 December 1895. Returning an article corrected and adding some comments. There is a lengthy blue-pencil endorsement on the reverse of the second leaf probably from Fisher, partically obscured by traces of old mounting.
'... I have had inserted into it one or two trifling enlargements of what you say. You will alllow me to delete the exact spot of my house, as the knowledge of it brings so many tourists.'
See Collected Letters, ed. Millgate. Vol. 2, page 102, where it is suggested that Hardy's correspondent may be William James Fisher (d. 1924), assistant editor of the Daily Chronicle.
