Autograph Letter Signed in French to de Ferre, 2 pages 8vo (slight staining, small hole at the head, not affecting the text), 21 Avenue Montaigne, 3 November 1889. Discussing the Mariotti Affair, with reference to construction supervisors of the the Suez Canal, where Mariotti was employed, who had confirmed his good reputation, and referring also to the Panama Canal.

'... Several papers have made me express an opinion on the Mariotti affair after a report in yesterday's Frenchman. I would be obliged if you would correct this manifest error because I have knowledge of the affair in question after the pistol shot fired against Mr Fregainot. ...'
