D'ORSAY, Count Alfred (1801-1852). French artist.
Autograph Letter Signed to Albert Smith (1816-1860, Author and lecturer), 2 pages 8vo, Gore House 'Saturday', no date. Asking Smith to prevail on his friend [John] Leech to look at a statue of the Duke [of Wellington].
'... this is the effect it presents, the ears of the horse, look like two crows perched up on the arm, and it strikes me that it would make a good caricature for Punch, with an effect of Fog, round it, it did appear to me as if he was standing, as we could not see any of the details of the horse. ...'
Together with a related Autograph Letter Signed from Smith to Leech asking him to look at an enclosure sent to him by d'Orsay.
