FRANKLAND, Sir Edward (1825-1899). Chemist.
Two Autograph Letters Signed to Lady Reay, 6½ pages 8vo, South Kensington and The Athenaeum Club (blind stamps), 25 November 1880 where dated. Correspondence relating to social business, telling her of family news and their new house at Reigate Hill, congratulating her on the election of Lord Reay, and enquiring whether she has seen a new luminous paint.
'... Have you seen the new luminous paint? The base of it is sulphide of calcium & the brilliance & persistency of the light are very remarkable. ... I enclose a circular & card though I fear your enthusiasm will hardly carry you into the middle of the city after a new paint!'
