BEETON, Samuel Orchart (1831-1877). Husband of Isabella Beeton and publisher.
Autograph Letter Signed to 'My dear Doctor', 2 pages 8vo (some traces of mounting on the second leaf), 39 Bedford Street, 26 March 1876. Returning the corrected proof of a medical circular (no longer enclosed), commenting on the style and technicalities, and asking for a copy of the amended circular to be sent to him when ready.
When Isabella married Samuel Orchart Beeton in 1856 he had already begun to make a name for himself as a publisher and editor, financing a series of innovatory publications. Part of the extraordinary success of her book, 'Beeton's Book of Household Management', was a result of her husband's skilful marketing.
'... I have corrected, here & there, some little technicalities, trifles wh[ich] struck me as capable of change for the better. Thus, may you have the largest possible "following"... .'
