BRITTON, John (1771-1857). Antiquary, topographical & architectural writer.
Autograph Letter Signed to Miss Bullock, 2 pages large 8vo on conjunct leaves (a little wear in the folds), 17 Burton Street, 14 November 1848. Sending a stanza on his name, commenting on the corrections had made to it, deprecating his abilities as a poet, and mentioning his esteem for Miss Bullock's father.
'J. stands for John & B. for a Britton
And thus you're my name as usually written.
But you'l give to this couplet a much better sound.
If the o you make e, or turn the e round. ...'
