DISRAELI, Benjamin (1804-1881). Prime Minister 1868 and 1874-1880.
Autograph Letter Signed ('B. Disraeli') to H[enry] Glassford Bell (1803-1874, miscellaneous writer and Sheriff), 3 pages 8vo on black-edged paper, Glasgow, 21 November 1873. Regretting that they had not been able to meet during Disraeli's visit to Glasgow, 'but still more for the cause'.
'... You will add to my sense of obligation, if you will permit one of your friends to let me know, occasionally, how you [are] proceeding ...'
Bell, sheriff principal of Lanarkshire 1839-74, had undergone surgery for 'a disease of the hand' (cancer) in late 1873 and died on 7 January 1874.
Together with the original envelope signed ('B. Disraeli') in the lower left-hand corner.
