Autograph Letter Signed to his cousin Robert Gladstone, 3 page 8vo on black-edged paper (remains of mount on the reverse), 11 Downing Street, 27 March 1862. Regretfully declining an offer of hospitality on the grounds that he had already accepted one from Sir J. Watts.
'... I think it will be right for me during my stay at Manchester - which must of necessity be very short - to avoid any public appearance except the one on account of which I am to go thither. ...'
