BROWNING, Robert (1812-1889). Poet.
Autograph Letter Signed to [?Alexander] Macmillan, 1 page 8vo (neatly laid down), 19 Warwick Crescent, 2 April 1871. Asking for instructions as to dress ('should the dress be "evening" or "morning", seeing that we have to do with rail-roads?').
Not in The Brownings' Correspondence, a Checklist, compiled by Kelley and Hudson, where a few other letters to Alexander Macmillan are noted.
The image of Browning travelling by train improperly attired is too much to contemplate.
[No: 20553]
