Autograph Letter Signed to Hornby, 1 page 8vo on black-edged paper (neatly laid down), Harrow, 10 March no year. Explaining that he had changed the date of an inspection in order to see Hornby on Tuesday the 16th.
In 1851 through the patronage of Lord Lansdowne Matthew Arnold had been appointment to the inspectorate of schools. He carried out the quite arduous duties of his office with great zeal. A valuable collection of his official reports was published after his death.
