Paganini in London

PAGANINI, Nicolo (1782-1840). Italian violinist.
Autograph Letter Signed in Italian to an unnamed correspondent ('Pregiatissimo Signore'), 1 page 4to (small photograph lightly attached), 98 Regent Street Quadrant, 20 June 1831. Confirming arrangements for a concert.
Paganini expresses his thanks for the instructions transmitted to him by Andrew Barnard, and confirms arrangements for a concert on Wednesday evening, 29 June, with a repeat on the Thursday.
The violinist had made his London debut on 3 June this year, to rapturous acclaim. In the course of the year he gave eighteen concerts in London, twenty-two in Ireland, twenty-three in Scotland and forty-nine in the provinces. The receipts for the London concerts alone amounted to more than £10,000. It would appears, however, that Paganini did not proceed with the concerts discussed in the present letter: on 29 June he gave a private performance for the royal family, and on the 30th a charity concert for Adult Orphans.
