PUCCINI, Giacomo (1858-1924). Italian opera-composer.
Fine Photograph (head and shoulders) by Frank C Bangs, signed and inscribed on the mount to Josephine Jacoby and dated New York, February 1907. The photograph in excellent condition, the mount a little browned and chipped at the corners (but could be disguised in framing).
Puccini had sailed to America early in 1907 to attend the rehearsals and premieres of four of his operas, among them Manon Lescaut and Madama Butterfly in their first performances at the Met. He was looking for a new subject for his next opera, and while in New York he went to see several plays, including three by David Belasco, on whose play 'Madame Butterfly' he had based his latest opera.
