MITFORD, Mary Russell (1787-1855). Novelist and dramatist.
Small collection comprising four letters, an autograph manuscript poem signed, an autograph list of books and a fragment from a letter.
The letters are:
Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent [at the publishers', Smith, Elder?], 1 page 8vo (laid down on card), 23 Newman Street, 'Friday Evening', undated; asking for the money due to her for an article in 'your Friendship's Offering'.
Autograph Letter Signed to 'Madam', 1 page 16mo, undated; claiming no recollection of a cook of the name given to her, and denying that she had ever given a recommendation.
Autograph Letter Signed, characteristically on a torn-off fragment, 1 page 8vo (oblong), undated; withdrawing from some arrangement and discussing gardening.
Autograph Letter (third person), ½-page 16mo, Swallowfield, 'Friday', undated; thanking Mr Spence for his note.
Autograph Manuscript Signed of a six-line poem beginning Fair Spring! beneath thy feet the grass is set ..., 1 page 8vo (oblong), Swallowfield, 18 June 1852.
Autograph list on the reverse of an address-panel to herself, comprising the titles of several books including David Copperfield and works by Thackeray.
Three lines and signature removed from the end of a letter.
