[KEMBLE, John Mitchell] (1807-1857). Philologist & historian.
Facsimile copy of an Autograph Letter Signed to J W Donaldson at Trinity College, Cambridge, 1 page 4to with an autograph address-leaf, signed with initials, 22 March 1839. Red wax seal, seal tear repaired. Discussing Donaldson's New Cratylus of which he approves and wishes to review; with a side-long sneer at 'that unwieldy idol' Parson Horne.
Although this is the 'sent' copy with autograph address-leaf and postal cancellations, the text appears to have been derived from an early species of copying machine, resembling a carbon copy.
