GANDHI, M.K. (1869-1948). Hindu nationalist and spiritual leader.
Autograph Letter Signed ('Bapu') to Shanta, on two sides of his customary coarse buff paper, small 8vo, no place, 20 June 1937. Urging her to go to London to visit her mother who has written asking for her return, assuring her that she can still serve the cause while she is away, and offering to arrange passage for her.
'... You will serve India even being in London by dispelling the ignorance prevailing there about things Indian. ...'
Shanta was an English mill girl who had gone to India to work with Gandhi. She did eventually return to England, where she married an Indian.
