Preparations for the reassembling of Parliament

ARLINGTON, Henry Bennet, 1st Earl of (1618-1685). Member of Cabal ministry.
Autograph Letter Signed ('Arlington') [to Sir Horatio, 1st Viscount Townshend], 2 pages folio with contemporary docket to second leaf, Whitehall, 13 June 1676. An important letter concerning the differences between Townshend and Charles II pertaining to the reassembling of Parliament.
'... Wee are making as great preparations for the reassembling againe of the old Parliament as if it were to come sooner than its time, though noe such thing is yet talked off but it is only to confront those who seeme to live in a beliefe still that the old one will bee disolved and a new called speedily but I confess it be but little probability of it. ...'
Townshend signed the address for the dissolution of Parliament.
[No: 19963]
