KEAN, Edmund (1787-1833). Actor.
Ticket of admission signed, admitting two to the boxes for Othello at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, 21 January 1820. Kean has filled in the printed form with the number of boxes. Measuring 60 x 100 mm (ca 2½ x 4 inches) the ticket is accompanied by an engraving of Kean as Hamlet.
Kean played both Othello and Iago to great critical acclaim at the Theatre Royal. Many years later, while playing Othello at Covent Garden, he collapsed with what was to become a fatal illness.
