Unless otherwise indicated the image is of the most significant part of the object

GARRARD, Apsley George Benet Cherry- (1886-1959). Antarctic explorer.
Picture postcard signed on the reverse by Cherry-Garrard (in pencil) and by Edward Wilson's widow, Oriana and seaman T S Williamson (all in pencil). The postcard shows a team of huskies 'leaving the ship for the sledge trail' during the 1914-1917 Expedition. Shackleton is shown on deck.
Oriana and Edward Wilson were married just three weeks before the Discovery sailed on the 1901 Expedition. They met at the Battersea mission in which they both worked. Williamson was present at both the Discovery and Terra Nova Expeditions and is mentioned several times in Cherry-Garrard's Worst Journey in the World.

Cherry-Garrard's polar career had ended on his return from the fateful 1910-13 expedition. Traces of former mounting on the picture side.
